Am I moving atoms when I wave my hand? explores the hand as a site of communication, intimacy, and power. The gesture of waving, at once social and symbolic, serves as an entry point into broader questions of beliefsystems and the construction of narratives.
Collaborating with a medium and an AI developer, palm lines of world leaders are analyzed by using publicly available images of their waving hands. Intimate details about aspirations, trauma, relationships, character flaws or strengths, and predictions, are read and articulated by both medium and machine. The palm readings, blending speculative insights with biometric data, are translated into neon glass sculptures. The glowing lines, filled with noble gases such as neon and Argon, are mounted on metal modular structures and paired with material elements to form abstract portraits.
Referencing both ancient divination and modern surveillance, early commercial signage and cosmic matter, the series of sculptures reflects on how physical gestures are interpreted, codified, and translated within systems of visibility and control. Reflecting on how power, identity, and the future are mediated through the body and its most ordinary expressions.
